A city icon
The Plaza de España in Seville stands as one of the most emblematic and beloved monuments of the city. Its imposing beauty, rich history and unique atmosphere make it an essential place for any visitor. A space that invites us to walk, admire and dream, transporting us through time and culture.
A tribute to Hispanity
Built for the Ibero-American Exposition of 1929, the Plaza de España was conceived as a tribute to Hispanidad and the cultural unity between Spain and its ancient American kingdoms. Its design, the work of architect Aníbal González, perfectly reflects this spirit, combining architectural elements of various styles, from Renaissance to Mudejar.
A walk through history
When walking through the Plaza de España, we find endless details that tell us the history of Spain and its relationship with America. The 49 pavilions that surround the square represent each of the Spanish provinces and the capitals of Latin America, each with its own architectural style that reflects the cultural richness of the country.
In the center of the square, a majestic staircase leads to an imposing chamber, presided over by a statue of Spain. On both sides of the staircase, two brick towers evoke the ancient walls of the city. A navigable canal crosses the square, crossing four bridges that represent the four peninsular kingdoms: Castilla, León, Aragón and Navarra.
A movie set
The beauty and grandeur of the Plaza de España have not gone unnoticed by the world of cinema. The setting for numerous films and series, this monument has served as a backdrop for stories of love, adventure and even espionage. Among the best-known films that have been filmed in the Plaza de España are "Lawrence of Arabia", "El Cid" and "Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones".
A place to enjoy
Beyond its historical and cultural value, the Plaza de España is a place to enjoy free time and leisure. Families, couples and friends gather to walk, sit on the benches and admire the landscape. Children play in its large green spaces, while street artists fill the environment with music and color.
